WESTERN NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: A TICKET TO TOMAHAWK (***)
Last evening at our Western Night at the Movies gathering, Robert Nott brought one of the most charming and delightful Western comedies I’ve ever seen. A TICKET TO TOMAHAWK
WESTERN NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: SLIM CARTER (**)
It was a real surprise at our Western Movie Night get-together. David Morrell chose two films none of us had seen before.
WESTERN NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: THE CLAIM (***)
It was Kirk Ellis’ turn to curate at our Western Night movie gathering last night and he chose THE CLAIM released in 2000. Inspired by British writer Thomas Hardy’s novel THE MAYOR OF CASTORBRIDGE,
WESTERN NIGHT AT THE MOVIES THE GUNFIGHTER (*** ½)
Gregory Peck plays outlaw Jimmy Ringo with a laconic stance that also conveys the weariness of carrying the weight of a reputation he desperately wanted in his youth but now realizes is nothing but a target for every quick-draw kid wanting to make a name for himself.
WESTERN NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: ULZANA’S RAID (***)
Our western Night at the Movies group met last night and it was Johnny Boggs’ turn to curate. He chose ULZANA’S RAID (1972), an underrated but uncompromising film about a renegade Apache who, along with a handful of followers, escape from the San Carlos reservation in Arizona Territory and are then pursued by the U.S. Cavalry.
WESTERN NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: FRONTIER MARSHAL and TRAIL OF THE VIGILANTES (**1/2)
We met last night for our Western Night at the Movies get-together and Robert Nott chose two truly “Wild West” features.
